To quote, \u201cIt is stable for 3 months at -20\u00b0C, 2 weeks at 5\u00b0C, and 4 days at room temperature.\u201d \u00a0But in vivo, or within a living organism, it is quite stable. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The reason it is called decarboxylation is the chemical structure involved in CBDa. When heat is applied, CBDa loses its carboxylate group in the form of water vapor and carbon dioxide, becoming CBD. According to<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.catscientific.com\/dissolving-acidic-cannabinoids-for-a-thca-cbda-solution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> CatScientific<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, \u201clab analysis of this decarboxylation reaction provides estimates that smoking cannabis yields approximately a 30% conversion of THCA to active THC; other methods such as cooking or heated solvent extractions will yield 70-90% conversion.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How is CBDa Formed?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cannabidiolic acid actually comes from yet another acid, cannabigerolic acid. According to a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jbc.org\/content\/271\/29\/17411\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> found in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, the enzyme responsible for this transformation can be purified. It is called CBDa synthase. It catalyzes the oxidative cyclization of cannabigerolic-acid into CBDa. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Concentrations in Cannabis Varieties<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We have known for a while that different strains of cannabis plants can be grown. But it wasn\u2019t until as recently as 2011 that the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roche.com\/media\/releases\/med-cor-2011-08-18u.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> entire genome of two strains, Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Indica, was sequenced<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by Medicinal Genomics, a private company headquartered in Marblehead, Mass., USA and the Netherlands. That is pretty crazy considering how much we like to fight, isn\u2019t it? \u00a0Medical Genomics was surprised, then, by their finding that cannabis strains can differ by a figure equivalent to 10 times the variation of the human genome. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When trying to figure out the concentration of cannabinoids in certain strains, bear in mind that, with the advent of dispensaries in America, producers are breeding new strains more than we breed dogs and cats. Strains are frequently being invented for their varying effects, either for psychotropic means or for soothing therapeutic means.
