Our skin is our first line of defense against harmful bacteria and viruses. But, in reality, how well do we take care of it?

When we have damaged or problematic skin, the usual move is to grab a prescription or an over-the-counter cream — without questioning what’s actually in it. But nowadays, more people are exploring alternatives like CBD skincare.

While research is still ongoing, CBD has been making waves as a go-to ingredient for tackling common skin issues without the harsh side effects.

Let’s take a closer look at five common skin conditions that CBD might help improve—and why so many people are adding it to their skincare routine.

How Does CBD Work on Our Skin?

Hemp Oil for Skin Care

CBD is becoming a popular option for people looking for a natural way to handle common skin issues. CBD topicals are typically preferred for skin conditions because they work directly on the problem area.

Many people turn to CBD-infused skincare products for hydration and to support their skin’s overall appearance. Since it interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, it may also help manage conditions that lead to dryness, rashes, and flare-ups. Some studies point to CBD oil’s potential in soothing inflamed skin and restoring balance.

People also consume hemp seeds for skin health. Hemp seeds contain omega fatty acids, known for their moisturizing and healing properties.

5 Skin Conditions that CBD Can Improve

Here are five common and highly effective applications of CBD in skincare:

1. Pimple-Prone Skin, Clogged Pores, and Blackheads

You might have thought that battling breakouts was something you’d leave behind in your teen years. But as most of us have learned, pimples, clogged pores, and blackheads can strike at any age.

According to the National Institute of Arthritis, Musculoskeletal, and Skin Diseases, 80 percent of young adults and teens have suffered from skin breakouts at some point in their lives.

Pimple-Prone Skin

A lot of acne treatments can strip your skin and, sometimes, worsen breakouts. Some users report that CBD-infused skincare products leave their skin feeling more balanced. CBD is also known to support oil control and provide a calming effect on areas prone to breakouts.

Clogged Pores and Blackheads

Excess oil, dirt, and dead skin clogging pores can cause breakouts and blackheads. CBD can help balance oil production, reducing the risk of clogged pores. When combined with a proper cleansing routine, CBD skin care products may be a beneficial addition for those with oily or combination skin.

2. Rashes and Extremely Dry Skin Conditions

Irritated, inflamed skin can leave you feeling uncomfortable and constantly reaching for relief. Whether it’s an allergic reaction, environmental irritation, or an ongoing skin condition like eczema, many people turn to CBD topicals for their potential to provide deep hydration and soothe dry areas.

Rashes

Allergic reactions, stress, or exposure to irritants like poison ivy or strong detergents can trigger rashes. They often start with redness and inflammation but can progress to swelling, bumps, or peeling skin. CBD has been reported to help soothe irritation and prevent rashes from worsening.

Dry Skin Conditions

Skin that’s naturally dry or prone to irritation can be tough to manage, especially in harsh weather. CBD topicals, combined with coconut oil, shea butter, or essential oils, can provide deep hydration while calming inflamed skin. Regular use may help prevent dry patches from turning into itchy rashes.

3. Flaky and Patchy Skin

Sometimes, your skin may develop painful, scaly patches ranging from small red spots to large areas of cracked, dry skin. CBD oils can help with this.

Flaky Skin

Flaky skin is usually caused by excessive dryness, irritation, or underlying skin conditions. CBD topicals are often infused with hydrating ingredients to support skin nourishment and comfort. Its antioxidant properties can also help prevent infections that can make the condition worse.

Patchy Skin

Patchy, discolored skin is often linked to autoimmune conditions like psoriasis, where the skin produces new cells too quickly. CBD’s can reduce redness, calm flare-ups, and slow excessive cell buildup. It can also provide moisture to keep the skin from becoming dry and irritated.

While CBD is not a cure for any skin condition (including psoriasis), some users find it beneficial for improving the overall feel and texture of their skin, particularly in colder months or drier climates.

4. Bug Bites and Itchy Skin

Seasonal changes, allergic reactions, or environmental irritants can cause your skin to feel itchy and inflamed. Under these circumstances, CBD may be able to provide quick relief.

Bug Bites

Bug bites trigger immune responses like redness, swelling, and itching. CBD helps calm this reaction by reducing irritation at the bite site. Other CBD benefits, like its antibacterial characteristics, may also help prevent infection from excessive scratching.

Itchy Skin

Chronic itchiness can stem from dryness, irritation, or underlying skin conditions. Anecdotal reports suggest that some users find relief when applying CBD creams or balms to itchy or irritated areas. In a study by the University of Colorado’s dermatology department, nearly 40% of participants who used a CBD-infused cream twice daily for three weeks reported noticeable relief from severe itching.

However, if a skin concern persists or worsens, it’s always best to consult a healthcare professional.

5. Sores and Bumps

Sores and fluid-filled bumps, similar to rosacea, are common in people with sensitive skin and are often linked to autoimmune issues. Rosacea, in particular, affects over 16 million Americans and primarily appears on the face, especially on the cheeks, nose, around the eyes, and chin. Since it’s hereditary, there’s no cure — only management.

Sores

Skin flare-ups caused by autoimmune responses often result in red, inflamed sores that can be mistaken for acne or sunburn. CBD is being explored for its ability to reduce redness, soothe irritation, and support skin healing.

Bumps

Pus-filled bumps tend to worsen with immune system disruptions and hormonal imbalances. CBD topicals, like creams and hemp oil soaps, can help retain moisture, calm redness, and protect the skin from environmental stressors. Regular use may help reduce flare-ups and keep skin feeling balanced.

Fix Your Skin with Healthy Hemp Oil

CBD-infused skin care can act as a tremendous source of protection and relief. But remember to always consult your doctor first to be sure your skin issue isn’t dangerous or contagious.

From cleansers to toners to serums, the skin care landscape has become more diverse and complex than ever before. As the search for new and natural ingredients expands, one ingredient has begun to find its way into skin care products: CBD. Unfortunately, misinformation and the general lack of research have resulted in plenty of skepticism from skin care enthusiasts. Read on to learn more about the most common 5 myths about CBD skin care.

Myth #1: CBD can’t be delivered via the skin.

While CBD is best known for being inhaled via smoke or vape, today the compound appears in numerous forms and administration methods, most commonly CBD oils and tinctures. However, you don’t have to ingest CBD in order to get it to work.

CBD is believed to act on the body’s natural endocannabinoid receptors, most prominently CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are more abundant in the brain, while CB2 receptors are more abundant outside of the nervous system, but both can be found throughout the body, including the surface of your skin.

Myth #2: CBD gets you high.

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the other prominent compound found in cannabis. It causes the characteristic high associated with using the plant. CBD, or cannabidiol, is non-psychoactive that may contribute to a variety of health benefits, including:

  • Improving sleep
  • Providing physical calm and relaxation
  • Reducing stress
  • Supporting a healthy mood

Current legislation from the 2018 Farm Bill states that CBD products are only legal with a THC content of 0.3 percent or lower. That’s not nearly enough to get you even remotely high.

Myth #3: It’s better to ingest CBD.

Taking CBD orally via edible, supplement, or vape allows it to enter your bloodstream where it can travel through your body and activate receptors. By using CBD topically, the cannabinoid acts only on the area it’s been applied. CBD likely won’t penetrate deep enough into the skin to enter your bloodstream, but sometimes you need that effective localized relief if you have skin sensitivities or are suffering from painful skin conditions that leave the skin, dry, itchy, or irritated. Topical CBD is also known to accumulate in the upper skin layers, potentially offering long-term relief.

Myth #4: CBD can’t help me with my specific skin issues.

While there’s still plenty of research required to get a full understanding of CBD’s scope of potential health benefits, most initial research suggests that it may help with a wide range of skin issues.

Inflammation

Inflammation is the root of nearly all skin issues, but early studies show CBD may possess anti-inflammatory properties. The exact mechanisms require further study, but many experts theorize that CBD may naturally elevate levels of a compound known as anandamide. Increasing this compound has been shown to help regulate inflammation, which may help to reduce red, irritated skin and otherwise help to calm sensitive skin. Additional studies are needed to help fully understand how this might help.

Acne

Acne is caused by a variety of moving parts, including inflammation, clogged pores, overactive sebaceous glands, and acne-causing bacteria. Sebum is an oily, waxy substance that normally helps to protect the skin, but the overproduction of sebum can result in clogged pores. CBD’s potential anti-inflammatory properties may help to soothe skin, and some evidence suggests that CBD may also help to regulate sebum production. That said, additional research is needed to validate these claims.

Signs of Aging

As you get older, your skin naturally loses some of its elasticity, resulting in lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. CBD is known to have natural antioxidant properties. Antioxidants neutralize compounds known as free radicals, a product of the body’s natural oxidation reactions. An accumulation of free radicals can cause damage to cells and even DNA, which contributes to signs of aging along with a bevy of health issues. As an antioxidant, CBD may counteract free radical damage to reduce wrinkles, lines, and dull tone to keep your skin looking youthful. Though our products are not intended to diagnose or cure any medical conditions.

Dry Skin

Full-spectrum hemp oil is also rich with natural fatty acids. The combination of fatty acids and antioxidants may help to nourish and hydrate dry skin and reduce redness, flaking, and itching. CBD appears to be good for all skin types thanks to its gentle, natural properties, though results will likely vary from person to person.

Joint Aches and Pains

CBD is best known for its potential to reduce pain, though again, more research is needed on this subject. When applied to your skin, CBD may help to soothe and comfort.

Myth #5: All CBD skin care products are created equal.

The fact is, CBD extracts are as variegated as any other botanical ingredient used in your average skin care product. Skin care is infused with CBD using either whole-plant or full-spectrum CBD hemp oil, or isolated CBD extract, known as CBD isolate. Full-spectrum hemp oil is rich in CBD, and contains all of the beneficial phytonutrients, terpenes, and cannabinoids naturally found in the cannabis plant. CBD isolate is pure CBD that is extracted from the cannabis plant and reduced to a powder form. Recent evidence suggests that CBD may be most effective in its whole, full-spectrum state, due to a phenomenon known as the entourage effect. The entourage effect describes the way that all the natural components of the cannabis plant work together synergistically to produce maximum benefit within the body.

CBD skin care products also tend to contain a variety of other products designed to complement and enhance the effects of CBD. It’s always a good idea to choose natural, sustainably sourced ingredients that have been tested for safety and effectiveness.

Healthy Hemp Oil offers a variety of CBD skin care products for all skin types. Browse our selection and start the journey to see what CBD can do for you.

It’s rich in protective phytonutrients and antioxidants, and it is said to deliver powerful antibacterial properties. Prominent lifestyle bloggers are raving about it, and A-list celebs can’t get enough.

It’s little wonder CBD skin care has emerged as the breakout beauty trend of 2019.

So why should you be excited about adding CBD-infused beauty products to your skin care routine?

We’re glad you asked…

What is CBD Skin Care?

Hemp has been a present and popular ingredient in beauty products for quite some time, but the presence of hemp doesn’t always mean the potentially powerful cannabinoid CBD is in there too.

If you see hemp oil on the list of ingredients, which is oil derived from the stalk, stems and flowers of the hemp plant, you can be confident that the product is infused with CBD. If you see hemp seed oil, which is oil derived from the seeds of the hemp plant, it won’t contain any CBD.

Now, that’s not to say that there aren’t any skin care benefits to using hemp seed oil. It’s rich in Omega-3, 6 and 9, all of which are essential oils for healthy skin. But we’re interested in the topical application of CBD and the benefits it may deliver via the body’s largest organ, the skin.

CBD interacts with your body’s cannabinoid system, providing soothing properties to the skin. It’s high in antioxidants, which may help keep your skin looking youthful, and it’s rich in phytonutrients, cannabinoids and terpenes, which may nourish and help protect your skin.

The 5 main benefits of using CBD on your skin

1. CBD soothes and repairs

If you suffer from an inflammatory skin condition, it maybe be a great option to potentially help soothe skin discomfort. This is because CBD is an anti-inflammatory, which helps to reduce redness and calm sensitivities. It’s also anti-bacterial, which may help to repair skin by keeping it free from harmful bacteria.

You should, however, be careful not to apply CBD skin care products to unknown rashes or open wounds. Make sure you have a doctor check you over before trying a new skin care regimen.

2. It moisturizes dry skin

Whether your skin is naturally dry, or you find that it dries out when it’s cold outside or when you’re in an air-conditioned room, it’s vital that you replenish the moisture in your skin. CBD oil for skin may have long-lasting and moisturizing effects. It could help keep it hydrated and leave you with a healthy glow.

3. CBD helps brings balance to oily skin

Your skin naturally secretes an oily substance called sebum. In appropriate amounts, sebum helps to protect your skin. But if your body produces too much, it can lead to breakouts, acne or a shiny complexion. Applied topically, CBD may help to balance oily skin by increasing your body’s cannabinoid levels, which, in turn, could potentially reduce the amount of sebum produced (1).

4. It’s suitable for all skin types

Normal. Sensitive. Dry. Combination. CBD oil for skin doesn’t discriminate! Containing a synergistic blend of phytonutrients, cannabinoids, and terpenes, hemp oil may help balance, restore, and protect your skin.

CBD keeps skin looking youthful

The best CBD products may also help rejuvenate your skin (2). Wrinkles may appear smoother, because of CBD’s rumored antioxidant properties.

Antioxidants help to minimize the damage caused by free radicals, the natural byproducts of chemical processes. Free radicals can be found in the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat — and are particularly prominent in alcohol, tobacco smoke, fried foods, and air pollutants. CBD may help to slow visible signs of aging by protecting and restoring your skin.

Who’s using (and loving) CBD beauty products?

When it comes to CBD beauty products, there’s a veritable who’s who of champions.

For starters, everyone’s favorite Friend (no, not Chandler), Jennifer Aniston, swears by CBD oil (3).

Star of “The O.C” and “Vinyl,” Olivia Wilde, is a huge fan of CBD lotion (4).

And “What Not to Wear” scene-stealer, Stacy London, took to Instagram (5) to give props to CBD’s skin care benefits.

They’re joined by the likes of Kristen Bell (6), Mandy Moore (7), and Dakota Johnson (8) as vocal admirers of CBD. So, if you’re ready to join the A-list of skin care routines, then, boy, do we have a treat in store for you!

Introducing Abinoid Botanicals: Our new CBD skin care range

Everything has been carefully formulated by CBD specialists, working in tandem with a qualified herbalist.

And while most skin care ranges are determined to occupy every inch of your medicine cabinet with separate cleansers, moisturizers and toners for every conceivable skin type and condition, Abinoid Botanicals keeps it simple. They have a single cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer that can be used on any skin type by young and mature skin alike.

A four-step CBD skin care system

Packed with phytonutrients and healing antioxidants, these four products combine to cleanse, tone, replenish and moisturize your skin, leaving you looking and feeling healthy, youthful and refreshed.

Get started in four simple steps:

  • Start your day with the Aloe and Yarrow Face Cleanser. It contains aloe vera and yarrow extract to cleanse your skin without dryness or irritation.
  • Next, detoxify and bring those pH levels back into balance with the Aloe and Red Clover Face Toner. This will help restore essential good bacteria to your skin while helping to reduce the appearance of redness and fine lines.
  • Now it’s time to experience those CBD oil benefits for skin with the Blue Chamomile and Hemp Face Serum. Infused with full-spectrum hemp oil and 23 phytonutrient-rich plant extracts, this game-changing serum lifts and brightens the skin, while providing deep hydration. Its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties help keep your skin clear and healthy, while the nutrient-rich ingredients reverse damage to skin cells.
  • Finally, apply the Lemon Myrtle and Sandalwood Moisturizer to your face and body. This silky smooth, all-natural moisturizer delivers maximum hydration, plus the added benefits of full-spectrum CBD.

And that’s it! In four easy steps, you’ll soon see why CBD skin care is all the rage this year.

In a second, I’m going to tell you about the top 3 amazing reasons hemp oil benefits hair (and our favorite hemp shampoo [1]). But first, did you know…

Hemp oil contains many fatty acids, proteins, vitamins and other nutrients that are beneficial to the health of different parts of the human body?

It’s true….

The oil is extracted mainly from the seeds of the industrial hemp plant. Most people easily confuse the hemp plant with marijuana given that the two look alike, and the latter has a worse reputation around the world. In fact, it is classified as a drug and is banned in many countries.

While both industrial hemp and marijuana are scientifically classified as cannabis, the former contains only traces of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the source of marijuana’s psychoactive properties. THC causes the “high” feeling that one gets after consuming marijuana.

Industrial hemp is legal in parts of Europe and the United States of America. Its oil is used to produce edibles, supplements, topicals and beauty products. Vapes, tinctures, and capsules are other popular options, and, last but not least, your pets can also enjoy the same benefits of hemp oil. In fact, there are huge plantations that specifically engage in its commercial farming and processing.

Hemp oil is used as an ingredient in shampoos, conditioning agents, or oil gels, and including hemp oil in these products has a number of benefits.

1. Hemp Oil Moisturizes the Scalp and Hair

For healthy hair, some amount of moisture must be introduced and maintained. This is necessary especially in drier weather and climates, which tend to dry out skin and hair.

One of the benefits of hemp oil for hair is its moisturizing properties. Hemp oil will prevent water loss and inject moisture into the hair and scalp.

In addition, it is easily absorbed by the scalp and hair, so it doesn’t get sticky and leave a mess.

2. Hemp Oil Stimulates Hair Growth

Hemp oil also helps to enhance the growth of hair on the scalp in a number of ways. Among these is through the Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9 fatty acids, which are necessary in stimulating growth.

Hair is made of keratin, up to 90% of which is a protein. Hemp oil can provide this protein during growth as a basic element of the hair, especially when included in a diet.

The oil also improves blood circulation on the scalp, which ensures that the hair follicles are nourished enough to support hair growth.

3. Hemp Oil Strengthens Hair to Prevent Breakage

It is very embarrassing to have your hair break. Fortunately, one of the hemp oil benefits for hair is strengthening.

When hair is excessively dry, it becomes weak and breaks easily. Hemp oil can maintain hair’s natural texture and makes the scalp livelier to better support the hair.

These hemp oil benefits for hair tackle the common issues experienced by many people around the world. Research published by the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry validates the use of hemp oil hair products in different easy-to-use formats for improved wellness (2).

Used for thousands of years for a number of different things, hemp has proved to be one of the most versatile plants found in nature. Many people use hemp in beauty products, and the overall number of hemp oil products you can shop for online illustrates just how popular using hemp oil has become.

Before hemp was added to hair products, creams, lotions, and topicals, it was used some 10,000 years ago for textile and agricultural purposes. Hemp clothing has been around long enough to be found on the remains of mummified humans from around 8000 BC, and hemp was the most popular form of paper until the mid-1800s. Hemp skin care came later when the hemp seed oil benefits for skin were discovered.

The rest, you could say, is history. Today’s natural product market is full of thousands of beauty products, and both men and women use hemp skin care products instead of chemical-derived alternatives. Hemp oil is one of the best sources of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids, both of which are crucial for maintaining healthy skin cells (1).

Hemp oil benefits for hair are only one of the potential benefits, as it may also help with sleep support, joint support and improving stress and mood. No wonder hemp oil products are used by countless people around the globe.

The Ins & Outs of Hemp Skin Care

Hemp is sometimes referred to as “food” for soothed skin, and it can be used both internally and externally. Hemp oil (the main ingredient used in hemp skin care) contains virtually zero THC, which means using hemp-based skin care products won’t cause any psychoactive effects.

Hemp skin care products are an excellent addition to your current natural skin care routine. Even if you’re not currently taking care of your skin naturally, using hemp for skin care is a great place to start. Hemp is an excellent moisturizer and contains many nutrients that may help your skin stay soft and supple.

Skin-Saving Vitamins Are Found in Hemp Oil

Hemp skin care has become very popular with use of hemp oil as a moisturizer, mainly due to its high vitamin and nutrient content. In fact, these vitamins and nutrients are so potent that hemp seeds have been historically used to sustain people during times of severe famine.

Full of vitamins E (a natural antioxidant that promotes skin tissue growth) and C (the famous antioxidant responsible for even skin tone and elasticity), hemp is one of the best choices in natural skin care. Hemp oil also contains essential omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which have shown to promote younger-looking skin (2).

Three Ways to Use Hemp for Skin Care

With the vast variety of hemp skin care products, using hemp for skin care is effortless. Whether you’re looking for extra moisture protection during the cold, dry winter months and could use a nice hemp balm, or, if you just want a hemp skin cream that provides a lighter-based moisturizer, using hemp for skin care is an excellent choice.

1. Soothe Dry Skin with Hemp Lotion

Lotion with hemp seed oil as one of the main ingredients provides excellent moisture for dry skin. Hemp oil contains all the benefits contained in essential fatty acids as well as key amino acids that are excellent for skin care and natural skin health (3).

Hemp oil is beneficial for dry skin because it contains the same lipids (naturally occurring molecules) as our skin. This means that hemp oil gives skin exactly what it needs to naturally replace lost moisture. It’s even added to products like a hemp salve, because of the benefits it contains to repair dry skin.

Looking to go a little “greener” in your skin care routine? Hemp oil lotion is also an excellent alternative petroleum-based lotion. When using hemp lotion, you can rest assured knowing that while naturally moisturizing your skin, you’re also doing your part to help the environment.

2. Use Hemp Oil as a Facial Cleanser

Cleansing the face with hemp oil is another excellent option. Most of us aren’t accustomed to using oil on our face as a cleanser, but there are many people who choose to cleanse their skin with hemp oil instead of soap.

While we all know some oils are responsible for clogged pores, hemp oil actually has the opposite effect and helps balance the skin’s natural oils. It also contains gamma-linoleic acid, which regulates hormones and can reduce acne breakouts.

3. Consuming Hemp Supplements for Skin

Aside from topically applying hemp, ingesting hemp oil in the form of CBD edibles may also be a beneficial part of natural skin care. Taking CBD supplements allows the nutrients to work from the inside out.

Is Hemp Skin Care Right for You?

Deciding to add hemp-based products to your skin care routine is an excellent choice, especially if you’re looking to take care of yourself in the most natural ways possible. There’s no need to worry about any psychoactive effects when using these products as hemp contains virtually no THC and does not alter your perception at all.

Actually, the compound responsible for many of the potential benefits of hemp is the naturally occurring cannabidiol (CBD), which is the main ingredient of many other food supplements such as CBD capsules, tinctures or vape oils.

If you’re looking to supplement your skin care routine with some new products or are just interested in seeing why hemp skin care has become so popular, there’s no better time than now. The market is full of excellent hemp skin care products, and from lotions and hand creams to cleansing oils, hemp is a top choice among many people looking for natural skin care alternatives.

Should CBD-infused Beauty Products Be Part of Your Skin-Care Regimen?

Beauty products infused with CBD are part of a growing trend in skin care. CBD, cannabis, and hemp products have taken the world of skin care and cosmetics by storm. Products like hemp-based CBD topicals are becoming the new go-to for people who want to keep their skin fresh and their bodies healthy.

From providing powerful antioxidant activity that may do wonders for your complexion to helping alleviate irritation caused by skin issues, there is a wide range of potential benefits that products infused with hemp-based CBD can offer you. There’s also a wide array of evidence that supports the many ways CBD beauty products can reinvigorate your skin, so why not try it out and see what CBD can do for your beauty regimen?

Topical CBD Oils for Smooth Skin

CBD topicals include balms, salves, lotions, and oils that are infused with active cannabinoids and are applied to and absorbed directly through your skin. These cannabinoid-infused topicals have become the beauty industry’s latest obsession thanks to their soothing, moisturizing, and rejuvenating effects. The popularity of topical CBD products has grown massively in recent years, with CBD and other cannabinoids making their way into various beauty products, skin creams, lip balms, shampoos, and more.

But how do they work? Instead of ingesting the CBD orally, which can take up to two hours for your body to experience the full effects, topicals are applied directly to the skin, which allows the CBD to take effect more quickly. CBD is never absorbed into the bloodstream when using topicals. Most importantly, though, CBD topicals are non-psychoactive, meaning they won’t get users “high.”

For those who may be somewhat reluctant to take CBD products orally, topical application can be a great way to explore the wonders of CBD-infused products and see how CBD can benefit them.

What Can CBD Oil Do for Skin?

The list of benefits provided by CBD oil is long and rigorous, and some of them may surprise you. CBD oil is one of the more accessible and easy-to-understand forms of cannabis, and from basic moisturizing to giving relief from the symptoms of eczema and psoriasis, it’s not hard to see why people love it.

Here are just a few benefits CBD oil may provide for your skin:

  • Provides effective and long-lasting moisture: Cold weather, dry indoor air, or the overuse of harsh soaps can cause your skin to lose moisture, leading to irritation and flakiness. The long-lasting moisturizing effect that CBD oil can provide could be the remedy you’ve been looking for.
  • Plumps the skin: CBD oil can also rejuvenate your ailing skin. It can smooth fine lines and wrinkles and plump tired skin, leaving you looking youthful and smooth. (1)
  • Soothes the skin: Skin that is sore or irritated from rashes or skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, or eczema can be incredibly uncomfortable, painful, and frustrating. CBD oil can provide a calming remedy to soothe and relax your skin. However, you should be cautious to avoid applying CBD oil to open wounds or unknown rashes that have not been observed by a doctor.
  • Balances oily skin: Sebum is an oily secretion of the sebaceous glands. (2) The right amount helps to protect your skin, but too much can lead to acne and a greasy-looking face. (3) CBD increases the body’s levels of cannabinoids such as anandamide (AEA), which has been shown to reduce levels of sebum. (4) Because of this, CBD oil could be a great solution if you find yourself suffering from these symptoms.
  • Works for all skin types: Due to CBD’s antioxidant properties, it is a universally effective method of skin care. Antioxidants are important because of their ability to minimize the damage from “free radicals.” Whether your skin is rough or smooth, dry or oily, CBD oil can help you make the most of it so that you look and feel great.

A quick rundown of CBD oil in your personal-care regimen shows that it can be used on your hair, lips, hands, and body. Some of the benefits include shampoo that can provide your hair with essential vitamins, including A, C, and E, and minerals such as zinc, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, and magnesium. (5) (6)

Furthermore, CBD is a great source of vitamin D, so CBD-infused lip balm can give your lips the vitamin D they need to stay smooth and plump. (7) (8) CBD may act as a great vitamin D supplement since most of us don’t get enough from food or the sun, and applying it topically can be an effective method of absorption. (9) There are many benefits of vitamin D, including improving the immune system, strengthening bones, and reducing the risk of cancer. There are also many benefits to the other aforementioned minerals. For example, cracks may appear at the corners of your mouth if you are deficient in iron and zinc. (10)

CBD Skin-Care Products to Try

Of course, CBD is not used only in skin care, and it isn’t only found in oil form. There are a variety of personal-care products infused with CBD’s rejuvenating and calming power. And never forget, cosmetics and beauty products are not just for women—men can benefit just as much from some of these products. From shampoo to lip balm, CBD has plenty of remarkable healing properties. (11) Here are just a few you should check out:

  • Supercharge your skin care routine with this all-natural Abinoid Botanicals: Blue Chamomile & Hemp Face Serum. Infused with 100mg full-spectrum CBD and 23 phytonutrient-rich plant extracts, this powerful serum will lift and brighten the skin, while providing deep hydration.
  • Great for all skin types and conditions, this CBD Skin Care Kit helps to hydrate, nourish and protect your skin in 4 simple steps.
  • This hemp infused cream is specially formulated for sensitive skin to provide soothing, all-over relief from pain and inflammation.

Tips for Applying Topical CBD Oils

If you’re unfamiliar with or unsure of how to properly and effectively apply topicals to your skin, follow these simple instructions to ensure you’re getting the most out of your CBD skin care products.

  1. Don’t mix CBD skin products with other topical products.

It’s important that you are applying the CBD topical to areas of the skin that are unaffected by other skin-care products. Making sure that you are applying your topicals to clean, product-free skin ensures that your skin is effectively absorbing the oil in its entirety. Mixing the CBD oil with other products will only dilute the effects and reduce its effectiveness.

  1. Make sure you are applying it at the right time.

Do not apply CBD oil before bathing or taking part in an activity that will make you sweat. Water will only wash away the oil from your skin before it has time to absorb and do its work. Excessive sweating can also prevent the oil from penetrating the skin, which will nullify the effects.

  1. Apply liberally and massage CBD oil into the skin.

Once the oil has been applied, massage it gently but firmly into your skin. The body won’t absorb much of the cannabinoid in small doses, so be sure to apply liberally. Once you’re done, make sure you wash your hands so you do not inadvertently spread potentially irritable substances to sensitive areas. Some oils contain compounds that may cause discomfort and irritation to the wrong parts of the body, such as the eyes.

  1. Follow the directions on the packaging.

Be sure that you are applying as much oil as is recommended, and read over any and all instructions carefully. Following these instructions and basic rules is the best way to ensure that you are getting the most out of your CBD topicals.

Research and Studies on the Skin Care and CBD Oil Connection

Although CBD in skin care is still a fairly new concept, there is already a substantial amount of research that shows its potential and potency. When asked by Marie Claire magazine about CBD’s benefits, Joyce Imahiyerobo-Ip, MD and director of cosmetic dermatology at South Shore Medical Center in MA, praised its healing and soothing capabilities, saying that “CBD is anti-inflammatory and potentially antimicrobial, meaning it could help fight bacteria and pathogens.” (12) She also talked of its antioxidant properties, which she claimed can “result in anti-aging benefits.”

“Cannabis is filled with antioxidants, like vitamin A, vitamin D, and vitamin E, all of which will be helpful in preventing damage and premature crepiness under your eyes,” she continued. But that’s not all. There are plenty of studies to support CBD oil being a good source of antioxidants, which are useful in fighting free radicals (compounds in the body that can damage cells and impair their functions). (13) (14)

Antioxidants work by stabilizing free radicals, preventing the chemical chain reaction caused by these compounds and therefore minimizing their damage. CBD oil has also been proven to protect against neurodegenerative disorders and age-related brain changes.

Furthermore, New York-based Whitney Bowe, MD, and New Jersey-based Jeanette Jacknin, MD, both agree that CBD’s anti-aging and anti-inflammatory benefits have been clinically proven. “Studies have shown that the cannabinoids like CBD in marijuana are anti-inflammatory and anti-aging, and topical CBD has proven helpful for acne, eczema, and psoriasis,” Dr. Jacknin has reported. “Hemp seed oil is reputed to be the most unsaturated oil derived from the plant kingdom, so it is less pore-clogging but a great moisturizer for dry, cracked skin.” (16)

What Users Think about CBD for Skin Care

Scientific evidence and the approval of experts is reassuring, but what do people who have tried CBD topicals have to say? Speaking anecdotally, CBD users have generally had nothing but great things to say about the benefits of topical CBD oil. There are many different forums and sites dedicated to the discussion of CBD and its benefits where people suffering from a variety of skin ailments (or just people simply wanting to try it out for its cosmetic qualities) have praised its impact. (17) (18)

Take a look for yourself at the amount of satisfied people who have come away from experimenting with CBD topicals with positive results. Many users have supported its beauty applications, saying it did wonders for their skin. Others have discussed its calming and relaxing benefits.

Ultimately, topical CBD oil for skin care is a new and exciting field. Although not all the research has been done, there is already plenty of evidence that it provides outstanding benefits for your skin—whether that’s to keep its vibrance or, for some older users, to help fight off some of the signs of aging.. With its soothing, moisturizing, and rejuvenating qualities, CBD topicals have already proven themselves to be a great alternative to the many beauty and cosmetic products out there. So why not check out topical CBD oil and see how it can change your skin care regimen today?

If you’ve already used CBD oil as part of your skin care regimen, let us know what you think. We would love to hear from you!

Hemp’s formula of fatty acids can give your hair some TLC that puts other shampoos to shame. Once you have found the best hemp shampoo for yourself, you’ll probably never have to look for another kind.

The Best Hemp Shampoo

For the longest time, shampoo was simply the step in your regimen that you used to clean your hair. While this is still important to maintain a healthy scalp, most shampoos are filled with sulphates and the like. These are detergents, so they strip your hair of its natural oils.

Unlike regular shampoos, the best hemp shampoo will effectively strengthen and fortify your hair. With a supply of fatty acids, your hair’s condition will actually improve using hemp, not simply be “clean.” Please, note that hemp shampoos are the best choice for general recovery or support. If you have some specific hair problems like dandruff or fungus you are better off to use specific antifungal shampoo or another shampoo with a relevant curative effect.

These are only a few of the hemp oil benefits for hair. Let us now delve into a few of the hemp products out there that we took a shine to this year.

The Products

Not only is Cibaderm a CBD-rich strengthening hemp shampoo, but this product can also help rejuvenate your hair as well as protect it from damaging influences like the sun and styling. Something is typical of CBD is its anti-inflammatory properties, which can do wonders for your scalp.

Your scalp will get much-needed hydration. There are no parabens, petroleum, or any of those harmful and artificial additives.

Another hemp product, and a great contender for the best hemp shampoo, is J. R. Liggett’s Old- Fashioned Bar shampoo. Made with both tea tree and hemp oil, this product will give you a clean and tingly feeling.

Another one of the best shampoo products on the market is by Platinum Gold Essentials. This product supplies the one-two punch of both hemp oil and the powerful Moroccan argan oil. Combined to give you hydration, volume, and shine, this hemp shampoo is nothing short of impressive.

Hemp shampoo products are helpful for maintaining a healthy head of hair. Be sure to look up other hemp products like conditioners, balms, and lotions to optimize your beauty supply of nature’s finest. There is an array of hemp products to choose from, so you are sure to find the ones that are right for you. Don’t be afraid to shop around and experiment–that’s half the fun!

Hemp oil contains the ideal amount of fatty acids for skin care. The essential fatty acids Omega 6 and Omega 3 are often missed in our diets. What’s worse, our bodies don’t naturally produce them.

Hemp Oil Skin Benefits

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and it absorbs everything put onto it. Today, many mainstream drugstore body products are made entirely of synthetic and harsh chemicals. What’s worse, the industry is shockingly unregulated. Labels claiming a cosmetic is “natural” or “organic” can be extremely misleading. It’s important to pay close attention to the ingredients listed on these products. Your skin could be directly absorbing toxic chemicals. By simply switching to herbal hemp oil products, you can eliminate this exposure.

Because hemp oil is natural, you can feel comfortable using it directly on your skin. It features quality ingredients that offer potential benefits for a wide array of uses. Elements like cannabidiol (CBD) may assist with soothing and nourishing skin.

Hemp oil products also include antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may protect against aging. Hemp oil products give you a natural skin care option that may leave your skin moisturized, regenerated, and revitalized with every use.

Where Hemp Oil Benefits the Body:

One of the greatest things about using hemp oil products daily is that many of its potentially beneficial qualities may also aid your skin. By using hemp oil in each part of your body, you can cover all bases. You can also simply focus on areas that you’d like to target.

Hair:

Many over-the-counter shampoos completely lack quality carrier oils. After use, hair often feels dry and is left vulnerable to potential damage. Hemp shampoo avoids and prevents such damage. Hemp oil shampoo supplies hair with significant amounts of essential vitamins and minerals like Vitamin E, zinc, phosphate, iron, and magnesium. Vitamin E works to help prevent split ends, keeps color vibrant, and may even help prevent gray hairs. Zinc helps strengthen hair follicles and prevent hair loss altogether. Hemp shampoo also enables the process of kerative creation, which helps you develop stronger and more resilient hair. Serious hair loss, especially in women, is usually the result of an iron deficiency.

Lips:

Our lips are a part of our skin. It’s important to make sure they are protected carefully like the rest of the body. An easy and effective way to protect your lips is by using products with hemp seed oil, like hemp oil lip balm. Hemp is the only plant oil that contains vitamin D. This is a key ingredient for beautiful looking skin.

Hands:

Safe for even the most sensitive of hands, hemp oil helps protect against external elements. Using a hemp hand cream before leaving home saves your skin from harsh winter conditions that dry and damage. Hemp oil features vitamin E and antioxidants, potentially helping the moisturizing and anti-aging features. It is also high in linoleic acid, which is responsible for keeping skin supple. Using hemp seed oil on your hands makes them softer while also being naturally antibiotic and antifungal. With the Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acid content, hemp oil helps regenerate the skin’s protective layer.

Body:

Hemp oil body and skincare products are full of potential benefits. This is in part because of strong anti-inflammatory sources. Hemp balm products can be used on the body to help ease muscular aches, possibly reduce swelling, and potentially ease discomfort. The high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids is beneficial. The omega-6 in hemp oil helps oxygenate and hydrate skin. High in omega-3s, hemp oil may help reduce blood clots and varicose veins. Vitamin E, also present in hemp oil, may boost skin’s UV defense and neutralizes damaging free radicals. Skin elasticity and water retention capacity may also be increased by hemp oil.

Face:

Use hemp seed oil on a damp face like a normal cleanser. It has a comedogenic rating of 0 out of 5, which means that it will not clog pores. Products like a hemp lotion reduce the redness of pimples and help prevent future breakouts. The high levels of omega-3 fatty acid content may help. Hemp seed oil has vitamin D, which boosts elasticity, stimulates collagen production, enhances radiance, and lessens lines and the appearance of dark spots on the face.

We’ve listed a ton of potential hemp oil skin benefits. Are there any specific ways you plan to use hemp oil products for you?

The demand for eco-friendly clothing is growing by the day with an ever-increasing number of brands acknowledging the various benefits of hemp wear and other types of natural fabrics. These natural materials are favored by an increasing number of clothing brands for myriad reasons, including comfort, durability and versatility.

While hemp can be utilized across many industries, it is a favorable option for clothing for a variety of reasons. Hemp fibers can be used to create a wide array of products, including hemp wear like shirts, jeans, dresses, bags, and hats. Other uses include skin care products, food products, paper, and building materials, to name a few.

As the battle to preserve the earth wages on, more and more consumers are searching for eco-friendly clothing options. Whether you own your own clothing company or are simply on the hunt for clothing that both looks and feels good, there are many reasons why hemp is fashion’s often-overlooked miracle fiber.

Why Choose Hemp Wear?

The fashion industry is notorious for its environmental footprint. Cotton is among the biggest offenders as the pesticides and leaked chemicals used to maintain it are intensely harmful to the environment. Hemp, on the other hand, is an eco-friendly crop that requires little water and no pesticides for growth, and it renews soil after each growth cycle. Conventional cotton requires one-third of a pound of chemicals in order to produce just one t-shirt. This has led many eco-conscious brands to explore other options in regard to clothing production.

There are many advantages to using hemp in clothing. From Hempest to Nomad Hemp Wear, a growing number of brands are looking to hemp to create stylish, affordable clothing with major lasting power. Some of the reasons for hemp’s rising popularity include:

Eco-Friendliness

Hemp’s popularity is due largely to its eco-friendly properties. This renewable resource is produced from living plants, meaning it absorbs the carbon dioxide it releases. During textile production, professionals are able to process hemp without the use of toxic chemicals. Its resiliency has also proven effective in cleaning up soil pollution. In fact, hemp may be grown consecutively for two decades without affecting its surrounding soil.

Aside from a decrease in harmful chemical use, hemp also uses only a fraction of the water used for other products, like cotton. Hemp requires only 1/20th of the amount of water cotton requires for growing and processing.

Comfort

Hemp is a favorable fiber to use in clothing for many reasons, with comfort ranking high among them. While cotton is commonly known to the fashion world as one of the most comfortable fabrics, hemp has characteristics that render it nearly as comfortable. Like cotton, hemp gets softer with each wash and wear. It also offers exceptional breathability, wicking moisture away from the body and cutting down on odors. Its porous characteristics keep people cool during the summer and warmer during cold weather, much like wool or bamboo. Additionally, hemp has antibacterial properties far superior to those found in other natural fibers.

Durability

Hemp is extremely durable. Lightweight and absorbent, it boasts three to four times the tensile strength of other common materials like cotton. Hemp is an excellent material to use in clothing intended for outdoor wear. Mold and UV resistant, hemp is ideal for clothing worn in tropical conditions. Its strength and durability ensure that it will not break down as quickly as other materials, like cotton.

Versatility

One of hemp’s strongest aspects is its versatility. Hemp may be blended with other fibers, such as silk or cotton, to create unique textiles. While cotton must be dyed to assume different color properties, natural fibers like hemp can naturally be found in shades like black, green, brown, grey or white. Hemp is also more water-absorbent than other materials like cotton, meaning it retains dye more effectively, keeping clothes from fading after washing. These qualities render hemp a favorable option for a growing number of fashion designers seeking an environmentally friendly option when creating clothing that is as versatile as it is aesthetically pleasing.

Cost-Effectiveness

Aside from its many uses, hemp is also cost-effective due to its minimal growth requirements. Hemp is so durable, it reduces the need for new clothing, which can save customers big money over the years. Hemp is also harvested and processed by hand, resulting in a growing number of jobs – a positive for any economy.

Clothing brands that utilize hemp in their designs are creating jobs, which has a positive impact on the economy.

A few of fashion’s most popular hemp wear brands include the following.

Nomads Hemp Wear

Nomads Hemp Wear has specialized in sustainable fabrics for 14 years. Combining fashion with an eco-friendly company mission, the company offers a wide variety of clothing items, including those made from specially fabricated hemp blends.

Hempest

Founded in 1995, Hempest is among the most successful companies committed to eco-friendly products like hemp. Hempest currently boasts the largest selection of hemp items, sourced from different locations throughout the globe. All fabrics and dyes are Oeko-Tex certified.

Patagonia

Outerwear brand Patagonia is one of the most famous brands to carry organically grown hemp products. The company creates clothing with 100% hemp or blends it with fibers such as organic cotton, recycled polyester and spandex to create stylish clothing primed for adventure.

Giorgio Armani

Giorgio Armani’s decision to showcase hemp on the runway brought new attention to the versatile fiber. Hemp shirts, sweaters and a three-button suit were included in the company’s Emporio Armani collection, putting a high-fashion twist on a timeless material with exceptional potential.

While hemp dominated several industries decades ago, current laws and regulations have made it more difficult for companies to utilize hemp in their products. For this reason, and many others, it is important to raise awareness about the benefits of hemp and its many uses and to recognize the differences of hemp vs marijuana. If you have been seeking an eco-friendly alternative that carries endless potential, hemp may be the answer.

This is a guest post by Tung Tran who writes about how to help people use CBD Oil for skin problems. Please enjoy his extensive research about hemp oil benefits for skin. You’ll also learn about our favorite Hemp Lotion.

Hemp seed oil is processed from the seeds of the hemp plant and it has the reputation of containing many health benefits. Although the oil is produced from the seeds of the Cannabis plant, it does not contain THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. It is derived from a tall-growing variety of Cannabis that has a low concentration of THC.

Hemp oil is a good source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are called essential fats because they are needed to maintain healthy cells, nerves and brain function. These fatty acids have to be absorbed from food because the body does not produce them.

Nutritional benefits of hemp oil are accompanied by topical benefits when it is used to cleanse and moisturize the skin. It also adds a protective layer to the skin, helps prevent rashes and provides relief for acne.

5 Reasons to Start Using Hemp Seed Oil for Your Skin’s Health

Here are five ways natural hemp seed oil will benefit your skin:

1. An Effective Moisturizer

The fats, or lipids, in hemp oil are similar to those found in the skin. This makes it an effective moisturizer and protectant for skin. It increases the elasticity of the skin and brings new life to dry, tired or dehydrated skin.

2. As a Dietary Supplement, Benefits the Skin

Taking it as a nutritional supplement can thin the blood, helping to prevent unsightly varicose veins on the skin. Hemp seed oil is made from the only edible seed that contains gamma-linolenic acid. This substance is needed to regulate hormone levels and it can diminish hormone-related acne outbreaks.

3. Skin Rashes and Acne Can Be Treated

Because psoriasis is caused by a deficiency of omega-6 fatty acid, hemp oil is an effective treatment. It also hydrates the skin and brings more oxygen to it, which makes it a good treatment for eczema and dry, itchy skin. Because hemp oil is a natural product with no known side effects, it is ideal for treating skin irritations.

Hemp oil can also bring down the redness and irritation of acne outbreaks. Over time, it can help eliminate acne by keeping the skin healthy and hydrated. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t block the pores but will actually help the skin balance oil production.

4. Rich in Supplements for Healthy Skin

Not only is hemp oil rich in vitamins A and E, it also contains trace amounts of important minerals like potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, calcium and phosphorus. Ingesting it improves cardiovascular health and blood flow to the skin.

It is also high in antioxidants, which are elements that prevent or slow cell damage. Because of this property, some people believe that the regular application of hemp oil slows the aging of the skin.

5. Used in Cosmetics and Lotions

Hemp oil is used in lotions, shampoos, conditioners, sunscreens, lip balms and other products for the skin. The moisturizing properties of the oil are one reason for adding it to these products. It also adds vitamin D to the skin, allowing the absorption of calcium that is needed for soft, smooth skin.

It can also be used as a gentle makeup remover. If all of the makeup doesn’t come off with one application of the oil, it can be repeated. You are getting the added benefit of providing moisture to your face while cleansing it.

Best Uses of Hemp Oil for Your Skin

To clean the face:

  1. Using clean hands, lightly massage about a teaspoon of oil into your face.
  2. Soak a washcloth in moderately hot water, wring it out and lay it over your face for one minute.
  3. Using a second warm washcloth, lightly rub all of the oil and makeup off of your face.

To moisturize the face:

  1. Wet your face with warm water.
  2. Pour a small amount of the oil in your palm.
  3. Rub it between your hands and apply all over your face.
  4. If skin still feels dry or tight, you can use more.

To control acne:

As a dietary supplement, it helps control acne. The gamma-linolenic acid in it helps keep pores from clogging. Sebum is a waxy substance that can clog pores, causing blackheads and whiteheads. Taking hemp seed oil as a supplement keeps the sebum from hardening and clogging the pores.

Apply hemp oil directly to areas of the skin affected by acne. It alleviates the redness and inflammation of acne due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It is also rich in antioxidants, vitamin E and vitamin A and it promotes healing of the skin.

To use as a Supplement

Hemp oil is best used cold because overheating it can transform it into a saturated fat. The oil can add a light nutty flavor to salad dressings and the ground seeds can be added to breads and oatmeal.

Here is one recipe for an oil & vinegar dressing using hemp seed oil:

Adapted from Balsamic Hemp Vinaigrette Dressing

Makes 1 1/4 cups
Preparation: Overnight
Ingredients:

1 sprig fresh oregano
1 sprig fresh thyme
1 cup hemp seed oil
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
Salt and pepper

Directions:

  • Whisk the oil and vinegar together.
  • Pour it over the herbs and spices in a glass jar or container.
  • Refrigerate overnight.

Whether taken as a supplement or applied directly to the skin, hemp oil provides an incredible boost to keep your skin looking fresh and feeling healthy!
